Fall courses + Events
Hi Everyone!
I am working on finishing Hannah Arendt’s Poems! It’s been a long few months of editing, writing and rewriting.
This fall I am teaching two courses for the Brooklyn Institute for Social Research online.
The first is Art and The Unthinkable: an introduction to Dada!
There are some spots available if you’re looking for a fun way to spend your Sunday afternoons. You can sign-up here.
If you’re interested in Dada there is a free event in New York City Thursday night hosted by the New York Public Library at the Jefferson Market Library. Registration here.
And I am teaching Hannah Arendt’s The Life of the Mind on Sunday afternoons in November and December.
Sign-up here.
And in case you missed it I wrote an essay on following Walter Benjamin’s path over the Pyrenees for the Jewish Review of Book here.
In the coming weeks: Event info about Hannah Arendt and Rosa Luxemburg, Poems, public talks, and more!
Until soon,
Sam

Hi! I’m very interested in the Life of the Mind course but the time is difficult for me— do you know if students get the recordings and can watch later? I’ve been wanting to take one of your courses at the Brooklyn Institute. Thanks! Eva
Hi Samantha, good to hear you. I'm a bit shocked that finishing the Arendt poems is so demanding and lengthy. It's just a good thing that I' m not a writer. Consequently, seeing your strenuous efforts confirms me even more.
Now to Walter Benjamin. Yes, I read your essay some time ago. Thank you for such an insightful report. It must have been indeed a spiritual experience for you.
Perhaps it is of interest to you or others who read along here that a German did the same thing last year.
"W a l t e r B e n j a m i n' s escape across the Pyrenees. The last day of his life. Film and logbook by Ronald Engert"
I'll put a link below. There is a video (1:10 h) embedded in the text. He filmed the way and reflected about Benjamin, the world and himself. Maybe someone is interested. Oh yes, unfortunately, or should I say thank God, it is in German, of course!
