Dear Reader,
How’s your Sunday?
This week a small collection for you.
I stumbled across “Otherwise” by Jane Kenyon, and it reminded me of my favorite essay on solitude, loneliness, and love by Donald Hall, about his marriage with Kenyon.
You can read his essay here.
And here’s an essay from Poetry Foundation on their marriage:
And a video of Hall recounting how they met:
And an interview with Kenyon, along with a reading from The Boat of Quiet Hours:
I hope you enjoy.
Until soon,
Sam

Thank you.
My wife and I recognize -- belatedly, reluctantly -- that the next month will be a trial and a joy together. Tomorrow, she sees (with me) about further rehab as she recovers from spinal surgery. A day layer, I begin a daily radiation zap, for 33 days, to deal with an annoying cancer (prostate) diagnosis. And we realize November will be ours like never before. "But one day, I know, / it will be otherwise."
