Dear Reader,

It’s Wednesday. And it has been a busy week.

I left Upstate New York and began a month long research trip for my book on loneliness that will take me from Maryland to California. I’m looking forward to sharing some of the journey with you along the way.

The Woods

Event

I am in Washington, DC for a couple days for some events as part of the Thinking is Dangerous Project.

Tonight I’ll be hosting a screening of the Hannah Arendt biopic “Vita Activa” at the Goethe-Institut in Washington, DC.

It begins at 6:30pm.

RSVP here.

Art

Yesterday I visited the Hirshhorn in Washington, DC and stepped into two of Yayoi Kusama: Infinity Mirrors. If you ever have the chance to step into one of her beautiful installations you will not be disappointed. I can’t say it was a transportive experience for me, but it was oddly blissful to see one’s own self reflected into infinity. Everyone entered slightly uncertain and walked out with a smile on their face.

Reading

If you’re looking for a lush midweek read, I recommend this essay on W.H. Auden.

Walk in Print

And it is so lovely to see the walking tour of Hannah Arendt’s New York City in print. You can read about it here. (I’ll lead another one in person next fall when I return to New York.)

More soon!

Yours,

Sam
