To Hannah Arendt's birthday celebration
October 14th marks Hannah Arendt’s 115th birthday!
It also marks the US publication of my book, Hannah Arendt.
In that spirit, please join me and the ever brilliant Paul Holdengräber at McNally Jackson Books on October 14th at 7pm EST (virtually) to celebrate Arendt’s birthday.
You can RSVP here.
(Spaces are limited!)
What would Hannah Arendt be serving at her birthday party, you ask? Here are some of her entertaining lists.
Make sure you have plenty of Campari and Tiparillo cigars, along with champagne, Grand Marnier, Dubonnet, Jack Daniels, Sherry, Riesling White Wine, Cheese-puffs, Ham, cold lamb, and doughnuts.
Arendt threw incredibly parties in her apartment at 370 Riverside Drive. Here’s a description of one published in the New York Times from 1974:
And in case you don’t have a recipe for Campari and Soda, here is mine:
1/4 cup Campari, 3/4 cup club soda or seltzer, chilled
2 teaspoons fresh orange juice (optional, I leave this out)
1 strip orange zest (If you want to buy something buy these. I promise they’ll change your life.)
Pour Campari into a wine glass. Fill the glass with ice (less is more); top with club soda or seltzer, and orange juice if using. Garnish with orange zest. Drink, meditate, call someone and say I love you.
See you soon!
