Like the way you can look at this “totem” with fresh eyes. Whatever its artistic merits, it does bring together a lot of history.

Sholem's poem is pretty bad, too. Love this post, thanks for sharing

Artistic imagination: Why would you cover Luther?

Both Luther & Thomas Müntzer were eccentric figures who rightfully opposed the use of indulgences against the peasantry. In the end Luther was backed by the non Catholic establishment & Muntzer demise was war.

Benjamin revolutionary commentary on violence & history,

“Then we shall clearly realize that it is our task to bring about a real state of emergency, and this will improve our position in the struggle against Fascism.”

Walter Benjamin is such a sad and interesting figure in intellectual history. His ideas and projects deserve so much more attention. I learned a great deal, in a variety of ways, when I read his correspondence with Adorno. Though his philosophy is difficult to explain clearly and simply, I really hope that you would write more about him in the future. By the way, is it true that he and Arendt are cousins?

I believe WB was a distant cousin of Arendt’s first husband.
